The Yellow House

Of times bygone

House with a yellow façade
you look too perfect to be true

the sedate streets
dotted alongside with
lavender and heather
give little glimpse into
what you once stood for

perchance you yearn
for the bygone?
For a chapter from history books
that speak of your erstwhile masters
and of a timeworn era?

I think I understand your pain
your anguish and longing
for antiquity
are familiar affections of my heart:
a cryptic desire for the past
a perplexing wish to change the present
which is all but
futile indulgence
which is all but
a luxury of the maudlin soul
