Hide and Seek

Patchy sky
pregnant clouds
trees so silent
I could scream aloud
static trees holding their breath
waning daylight
it smelled of death
permeating darkness
no stars in sight
a night so lonely
I shook in fright
crippled with dread
I let out a cry
perhaps he heard me
for he let out a sigh
‘open your eyes’, he whispered to me
‘I was just hiding’, the moon teased deviously
